Singer Lisa Maffia has revealed she has been diagnosed with cervical cancer.
The 41-year-old, who said she had never missed a smear test, broke the devastating news to fans on Instagram as she headed to a Colposcopy appointment at hospital.
Opening up about the experience, the former So Solid Crew member said: “”I never miss a smear and I unfortunately have cervical cancer. So now I’m even more cautious.
“This is just a reminder to anyone that maybe has forgotten to get tested!
“It’s not a game,” she urged.
Following the medical appointment, Lisa returned to the social media site where she explained had been “petrified” but the process was ‘quick and easy.’
“Just like that I am already out. As you can see I was really upset…,” said the tearful star.
Lisa then admitted that her mum is battling terminal cancer which had made her experience even tougher.
“My mum has cervical cancer, terminal cancer, so going into this every time I’ve had to go into this – this is the third time they’ve had to check my cells – makes me absolutely petrified,” she explained.
The brave star said she wanted to share her news with fans to encourage people to keep updated with their smear tests and “to be mindful of your health in general”
“It can happen to anyone,” she said.
“I’m cool,” she ended the self-record message.
Lisa shot to fame as the main female member of So Solid Crew in the early 2000s.
The band scored five top 20 hits, including the platinum selling single 21 Sseconds.
The London born musician then achieved success as a solo singer, with her track All Over also reaching platinum status in 2003.
