Dublin-based pay-TV broadcaster Premier Sports has secured the exclusive broadcast rights to the 2021 British and Irish Lions rugby union tour across 23 Asian territories.

The Premier Player Asia streaming platform will begin its coverage by airing the Lions warmup match against Japan at Murrayfield on 26th June.

Premier Sports also have live coverage of South Africa’s warmup games against Georgia in July, although timing and dates for those have yet to be confirmed.

The contract covers all eight tour fixtures, including three Tests against the Springboks, which will take place behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 situation in the country.

Premier Player Asia’s broadcast contract for the Lions tour of South Africa secures exclusivity in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Ryle Nugent, Premier Sports Asia chief executive, said: “The Lions are the greatest touring rugby team in the world and the 2021 schedule is hugely exciting. This announcement marks the start of a new era for Premier Sports in Asia and we’re confident of bringing more premium content to our services in the coming months.”
