Liam Payne reveals his and Cheryl’s grandfathers are at war over Bear’s football team and says One Direction reunion ‘will happen for sure’

Liam Payne has revealed his and Cheryl’s grandfathers are at war over which football team their son Bear, two, will support.

The singer, 26, appeared on Sunday Brunch where he discussed fatherhood and his time in One Direction– where he said a reunion will happen ‘for sure’.

When asked whether Bear supports West Bromwich Albion (Liam’s team) or Newcastle, he told hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer: ‘At the moment it’s a battle of the Grandad’s and who gets in there first, but he doesn’t really get football.’

‘He doesn’t understand it.’

Liam also spoke about his time in One Direction after previously discussing how he battled with alcohol addiction during his time in the band.

Quashing rumours all five- Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson- were the best of friends, Liam said: ‘One Direction was like my office, there’s one you get along with, one you don’t get along with as much.

‘There’s a misconception that we were massive mates but that wasn’t the case. Towards the end it was just about drinking and having a laugh.’

The Strip That Down hitmaker added: ‘I actually saw Harry for the first time in three years yesterday. It was really nice. He hasn’t changed. He’s still the same boy but so much has changed with the years.’

And Liam confirmed despite having their differences, the band will reunite when the time is right.

‘I think we will for sure, I don’t know when that is yet but there’s at least two years where we’re promoting our music. So at least two years,’ he said.

Liam revealed last week Russell Brand helped him get sober after battling addiction.

‘I had a thing with drink, and it was a guy called Chip Somers who got me sober. I was sober for about a year and visited Russell Brand. We went down to meetings together,’ he said.

Prior to discussing his sobriety, Liam revealed he will ‘go down’ to his ex Cheryl’s house to see his son Bear on Christmas.

The singer told how he was looking forward to some quality time with his son, two, over the festive season and thinks he will cook them all a Christmas dinner as it brings him ‘back to normality’.

Speaking on This Morning, he said: I’m going to go down and see Bear and maybe cook a Christmas dinner. I like to do Sunday roasts, brings you back to normality.

‘It’s the first time he [Bear] really gets Christmas now. I want to see if he really gets unwrapping presents this year. Otherwise it’ll just be Cheryl by the tree again.

‘I can really remember it from last year, she wrapped them all up and then unwrapped them, I was just sat there going “Right, what is this?” ‘

Liam and his new girlfriend, Texas native Maya Henry have been inseparable since going public with their relationship in September, following his split from Cheryl in 2018.
