Lewis Capaldi has announced the death of his beloved dog as he paid a sweet tribute to ‘the major’.

The Someone You Loved hitmaker confirmed the 16-year-old pooch, named Paddy, had passed away as he shared a photo on Instagram tonight.

Paddy was a firm fixture on the Scottish singer’s social media feed, with the adorable dog featuring in a number of the star’s photos and videos.

The dog – who was often referred to as ‘the major’ – even made an appearance in one of the West Lothian singer’s most famous snaps where he posed in an 80s-style tracksuit with his signature funky glasses.

Earlier this year, Lewis revealed his dog was almost fully blind and was getting ‘old’ but was still ‘happy’.

He shared a photo of his pooch on his Instagram and wrote: “Today is my dog Paddy’s birthday. He is 16 (old) and mostly blind (sad) but still happy (good).”

The singer has been busy working on his new album following the huge success of Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent.

Lewis revealed that the new album will not be released until next year, but he has been working hard on plenty of new songs.

He told The Sun: “I’m working on the next album at the minute.

He added: “I’ve got loads of songs done for it. I’ve written about 30 so far in the course of lockdown – it’s been a fruitful and a busy pandemic for me, but four of them are good.

“There are four songs that I’m pretty pleased with.”
