Naby Keita was dropped for the Leicester City clash because Jurgen Klopp wanted a more physical presence in the middle of the park.

Liverpool travelled to the King Power Stadium on Saturday, and fans were surprised to see summer signing Keita named on the bench.

Keita has begun life at Liverpool well, but captain Jordan Henderson was recalled in his place for his first start of the Premier League season.

Henderson has far more experience in the league than Keita and Klopp admitted he needed a ‘rock solid’ presence in midfield.

He said: ‘I thought it made sense for the game today. We have to [be], if you want, rock solid, in all departments because Leicester is a good football-playing side, so we need to defend very well, to be really compact and all different things so it helps when the boys are used to this.

‘This midfield played pretty much the last third of the last season unchanged, so that’s the reason.

‘On the other hand, it’s about being fresh and all that stuff.’

Leicester City named a side without Jamie Vardy as the striker serves the final game of his three-match suspension.

Liverpool are unbeaten in their opening three games and will aim to maintain their 100 per cent start with a fourth win in a row.
