Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani posted has doubled down on a social media post criticising pundit Karen Carney, taking full responsibility for the tweet.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side made it back-to-back Premier League wins on Tuesday night, thrashing West Brom 5-0.
The result moved Leeds into 11th place in the table, with more points than the fellow promoted clubs have earned combined.
Following the win, Leeds’ official Twitter account, which has more than 650k followers, took aim at Carney, after she suggested Covid aided their promotion push last season.
“They (Leeds) out-run everyone and credit to them,” Carney said during the coverage of the game at The Hawthorns. “My only concern would be, ‘would they blow up at the end of the season?’
“We saw that in the last couple of seasons and I actually think they got promoted because of Covid in terms of it gave them a bit of respite. I don’t know whether they would have gone up if they didn’t have that break.”
In response, the account clipped Carney’s comments, in a video which has now been viewed more than 3m times.
The post earned condemnation from several on the social media site, with ex-Leeds star Rio Ferdinand suggesting it should be taken down.
However, as of Wednesday morning, the video is still live on their account and Radrizzani’s comments have hinted that isn’t set to change.

After a fan messaged the Leeds owner about the offending post, he took full responsibility, claiming it was Carney’s assessment that was “unnecessary and disrespectful”.
“I take the responsibility of the Club tweet,” Radrizzani posted. “I consider that comment completely unnecessary and disrespectful to our Club and particularly to the fantastic hard work of our players and coaches whom were understanding on the pitch for the last two championship seasons by all stats”.
Leeds won last season’s Championship by 10 points from the Baggies, winning 12 of their last 14 matches.
