Larry King asked his doctors how he could end his life after suffering a stroke.
The American talk show host was hospitalised following a stroke in 2019 which left him in a coma for three days.
King, who is now wheelchair bound and has nerve damage in his foot, wished his life was over and asked his doctor for a ‘magic pill’.
Speaking to Inside Edition, he said: ‘I wanted to die. Not think it, I wanted to.
‘I didn’t want to kill myself by turning on the carbon monoxide or hanging myself, but is there a magic pill I could take?’
It was his son Chance who helped him get through his darkest moments.
‘He started to cry,’ the 86-year-old said.
‘I hadn’t seen him cry since he was three-years-old. He said, “You can’t leave”.’
The stroke prompted him to reevaluate his life, and he decided to end his 22-year marriage to his eighth wife Shawn, explaining they ‘didn’t get along’.
Larry added: ‘I wish it would have worked out. It’s nice to come home to a loving home.’
Speaking last year, he described 2019 as a ‘rough year’ and that the stroke had caused him to lose his memory.
‘I don’t remember anything since March. I had the stroke in March. I haven’t driven a car. I’m back at work and that makes me feel great. I was in a coma. That lasted a couple of weeks, and then I got out and everything got better. It’s been a long, hard ride,’ he said at his birthday party.
King, best known for hosting The Larry King Show and Larry King Live, has undergone a number of health issues over the years.
In 1987, he suffered a major heart attack and had quintuple-bypass surgery, and went on to write books about his experience with heart disease. And two years ago, King had a cancerous tumour removed from his lung.
