Larry King has been moved out of intensive care, after being hospitalised with coronavirus on New Year’s Eve.

The 87-year-old was previously receiving oxygen in the ICU in a Los Angeles hospital.

However, David Theall, a spokesperson for King’s production company Ora Media, has confirmed that King has been moved out of the ICU and is now breathing on his own.

The TV legend was also able to have a video call with his three sons Larry Jr, Cannon and Chance.

King’s sons and ex-wife Shawn King, who he filed for divorce from in August 2019, are unable to visit him under current pandemic restrictions.

The Larry King Live host had been ill for nine days with Covid-19 when he was admitted to intensive care.

King’s age and health issues put him at high risk of the virus, after suffering a heart attack in 1987, being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1999 and lung cancer in 2017, and suffering a near-fatal stroke in March 2019.

He was in a coma after suffering the stroke, and also underwent heart surgery afterwards to replace a stent.

King’s health scares have made him less afraid of dying, with the star previously telling People: ‘I have less of a fear of dying now.

‘I’m 86 and it is what it is. I just want to keep working until the end. I’d like to die at work — I’ll retire right there!’

His hospitalisation marked the end of a difficult year for King, after he lost two of his five children.

His son Andy died aged 65 from a heart attack, while his daughter Chaia was lost to lung cancer aged 51; they died within 23 days of each other.

King said at the time: ‘It is with sadness and a father’s broken heart that I confirm the recent loss of two of my children, Andy King, and Chaia King. Both of them were good and kind souls and they will be greatly missed.

‘Losing them feels so out of order. No parent should have to bury a child. My family and I thank you for your outpouring of kind sentiments and well wishes. In this moment, we need a little time and privacy to heal. I thank you for respecting that.’

He shared Chaia with ex-wife Alene Akins, and adopted her son Andy when they got married.

King is also father to Larry Jr with ex-wife Annette Kaye, and Cannon and Chance with estranged wife Shawn.
