Lampard laments "clear mistakes" and points finger at Chelsea star for two goals

Frank Lampard couldn’t help but point out that one of his Chelsea players was on the scene of the crime for two of West Brom’s goals on Saturday.

The Baggies flew into a 3-0 lead within 27 minutes at The Hawthorns thanks to a brace from Callum Robinson and a close range strike from Kyle Bartley.

The stunned visitors went in at half-time three goals down before mounting a second half fightback to earn a point from a 3-3 draw. Mason Mount and substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi pulled two goals back before Tammy Abraham tapped home an equaliser in stoppage time.

But despite the comeback, Lampard was still disapointed.

“It’s two points lost. That’s no disrespect to West Brom,” he told Sky Sports.

Lampard’s side were forced to settle for a point

“But to come here and understand the game, know that transition and mistakes would be something they would jump on.

“Counter-attack against and set pieces. We spoke about that before the game.

“You can’t legislate for pure mistakes which is what it was today, then it gives you a very difficult game to get back in.

“I can laud character, because we showed character and persistence, but we didn’t need to if we did things properly in the game.”

An error from 36-year-old new arrival Thiago Silva, who wore the captain’s armband on his debut and was later substituted, contributed to Robinson and West Brom’s second goal, while Lampard also spotted errors from Marcos Alonso for the Baggies’ first and third.

Lampard spotted Alonso’s roles in two West Brom goals

“As I say, mistakes, clear mistakes,” he continued.

“The first one, Marcos heads it into the middle of the pitch for them in a transition.

“Thiago’s one is a mistake, he’s been around long enough to know that and we’ll certainly give him that one in his first game.

“Then Marcos loses his man for the third goal from the corner.

“Clear mistakes so you can do as many meetings as you want, if you make those mistakes you give yourselves a mountain to climb.”
