Kylian Mbappe makes Olympics decision as PSG star fuels transfer speculation

Kylian Mbappe has confirmed that he will not play in the Olympics as he looks to finalise his future club plans.

The PSG star is among France’s leading lights and had been linked with a role in their efforts to win gold this summer.

But the forward will shun a trip to Tokyo as he seeks to finalise his next move.

PSG have offered the 22-year-old a new deal amid interest from the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester City.

Mbappe has informed his national body that he will not be available for selection at the Games as he seeks to sort out his club future instead, reports Le Parisien.

The forward is among the biggest stars in football and may well command a world record fee if he were to move.

Mbappe is into his fourth year at the Parc des Princes and has won every domestic honour there is.

A Champions League triumph has eluded him but he has previously insisted he would take time before announcing his next move.

He told Telefoot: “We are talking with the club. I said that I am reflecting on it too, because I think it is a signature, that if I sign, I am investing myself for the long term into PSG.

“And I am very happy here. I have always been very happy here. The fans and the club have always helped me. And I will always be very thankful to the club.

“I want to think about what I want to do in the coming years, where I want to be, and that is now I will be reflecting on it.

“I think that yes, I will have to soon make a decision. But for now I am in deep thought.

“If I had the answer today, I would have given it today. This is not a desire to take up time, it is just to really think about it.

“I don’t want to sign a contract and then one year later say I want to leave because I did not want to sign the contract. If I sign, it is to stay. That is why it requires thought.”
