The president of the French Football Federation (FFF) is desparate for Paris Saint-Germain to keep hold of Kylian Mbappe this summer.
Noel Le Graet’s declaration comes amid growing speculation Mbappe, 22, could leave the Parc des Princes in search of a new challenge.
The former Monaco frontman is one of Europe’s finest forwards but missed out on the Ligue 1 title for the first time since 2016 as Lille were crowned champions on Sunday.
Mbappe has one year remaining on his contract in the French capital and, unlike fellow superstar Neymar, has been reluctant to agree to new terms during protracted negotiations.
The FFF president told Le Parisien : “I want him to stay in France, and at PSG. He is young, and PSG still have many challenges to meet.
“It does not concern me directly, but players of this level, I prefer that they are with us.
“My preference is very clear, and in my opinion, it is even better to stay.”
Mbappe was named Ligue 1 Player of the Year for the second time in three seasons on Sunday for his eye-watering tally of 27 goals in 37 top-flight games.
His record in all competitions was just as impressive, with the Frenchman netting 42 times in 47 fixtures while also laying on 11 assists.
The last of those goals came in the 2-0 final-day victory at Brest, and after the match Mbappe spoke of his desire to be part of a successful “project”.
“Everyone knows I have a deep connection to the club,” said the World Cup winner. “What I want is to win, and for there to be a solid project around me.
“It is the most important. I eat and live football and the sports project is very important.”

Providing an update on his contract negotiations, Mbappe added: “We will discuss with the club and we will see what will happen.
“Either way, I’ve always been happy here. I understand that everyone is waiting for my answer. We’ll do things in order.”
Meanwhile, PSG sporting director Leonardo insisted he was “optimistic” about Mbappe’s situation as he spoke last month.
He said: “Mbappe? Everything is clear. We know Kylian’s situation and he knows what we’re thinking. He still has a year on his contract.
“There is nothing more than that. His decision will come, the important thing today is to win.
“Confident for its extension? We are generally optimistic. The club is optimistic. We don’t even have a reason not to be optimistic about the future.
“I ask once again for total concentration in relation to the field because there are still 10 matches.”
