Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly ‘well liked’ by the Arsenal board as pressure on Unai Emery continues to mount.

Arsenal slipped down to seventh in the Premier League on Saturday following a dismal performance against relegation battlers Southampton at the Emirates.

Alexandre Lacazette rescued a point for Arsenal in injury time and chants could be heard from the home fans calling for Emery to be sacked.

The Daily Mail claim Arsenal have begun the process of searching for replacements for Emery, although the board would prefer to hold off on making any decision until the summer.

The Argentine worked wonders at Tottenham on a limited budget and Real Madrid and Bayern Munich has been credited with an interest in him.

Members of Arsenal’s board are fans of Pochettino and he is ‘well liked’ by key figures at the club.

Pochettino’s ties to Tottenham, however, might be the major stumbling block to his arrival at Arsenal.

The Gunners are also considering former Juventus boss Max Allegri and Pep Guardiola’s No.2 at Manchester City, Mikel Arteta. as replacements for Emery.

Arteta is a former Arsenal player and expressed an interest in taking charge before Emery was confirmed as Arsene Wenger’s successor.

Arsenal coaches Freddie Ljungberg and Steve Bould are being earmarked as the short-term solution should the club break ties with Emery before the end of the current campaign.

As frustration among the Arsenal fans continues to build, the prospect of sacking Emery mid-way through a season is increasingly becoming a real possibility.
