We’ve only just reached the end of a season like no other in the EFL – but the next one will be around before we know it.
Given the late start to the 2020-21 season, owing to the pandemic, all teams had to shoehorn fixtures into a much smaller timeframe.
It’s hoped that the 2021-22 campaign will revert to something of a more familiar timetable and that it will be done with fans back in stadiums. Supporters have been locked out since March 2020, aside from a clutch of pilot events where a few thousand were admitted into select grounds.
With that in mind, Mirror Football looks at the key dates for next season
When does the EFL 2021-22 season start?
The 2021/22 EFL season will kick-off on Saturday, August 7.
In a statement, the EFL recently said the first fixture of the new campaign is likely be a televised fixure on Friday, August 6.
Sky Sports will broadcast 138 live EFL games across the entirety of the season.
When does the EFL 2021-22 season end?
The Championship’s final day is scheduled for Sunday, May 8.
League One is due to finish the weekend before, on April 30, with League Two’s last set of fixtures being played on Saturday, May 7.
The League One play-off final is set for Saturday, May 21, the League Two final a week late (May 28) and the Championship showpiece is booked in for Sunday, May 29.
When’s fixture release day?
Fixtures for all three divisions of the EFL will be released on Thursday, June 24.
They are set to be unveiled at 9am.
What about transfer windows?
The summer window will open on Wednesday, June 9.
It will close at 11pm on Tuesday, August 31.
