Katherine Ryan publicly spoke about her pregnancy earlier this week, as she proudly showed off her bump during a live recording of her podcast Telling Everybody Everything.
Since the announcement, Katherine says she has received lots of messages – and clapped back at online trolls who expect her to put her career on hold as she expands her family.
Taking to Instagram yesterday, Katherine told her 723k followers that she would not be cancelling her tour.
Filming a video outdoors, in front of a horse pen, the Canadian comedian said: “I’ve received a lot of really touching nice messages and a lot of rude messages.
“And a lot of messages – a lot of messages – asking if I’m gonna cancel my tour.”
Katherine paused, to emphasise that she would not let it get to her, before continuing.
She said: ‘I’m just gonna let that sexism wash over me. I’m not gonna let it affect my zen.
“No, I’m not cancelling my tour.”
She followed the video with a snap of her wearing a dark t-shirt, over which she wrote “Your Dad Is Cancelling His Tour”.
Katherine is currently pregnant with her childhood sweetheart Bobby Kootstra, who she reunited with after 20 years apart when visiting Canada to film for the BBC show Who Do You Think You Are.
The pair went on to enter a civil partnership as they tied the knot in a low-key ceremony in Denmark in 2019.
Katherine has a young daughter named Violet, from a previous relationship, who is reported to be thrilled about becoming a big sister.
The doting mother has been known to use emojis to obscure her appearance in order to allow her daughter anonymity in pictures she shares of her online.
Fans are particularly thrilled for Katherine’s joyous news as the comedian had previously requested for people to not enquire about if she were expecting.
Katherine doesn’t shy away from discussing difficult topics, with her opening up with listeners about her experience of pregnancy loss on her podcast.
Speaking to her fans, Katherine opened up last April about how she felt after finding out there was no heartbeat present at a checkup for her pregnancy in February 2020.
In the episode, titled ‘Pregnancy Loss’, Katherine requested for listeners to not reach out with questions surrounding pregnancy, saying: “If you see me looking particularly fat, in the next year or two, please don’t reach out and be like ‘hey, you and Bobby should have a baby’ or ‘are you pregnant?’ because…
“Just don’t ask anybody that. Until you see a baby crowning, just don’t ask that question because you don’t really know what’s going on.”
Since announcing her pregnancy, fans are thrilled for Katherine and Bobby as they expand their family – with it being reported that they are expecting their child this summer.
Violet is said to have thrilled Katherine’s fans when she announced that she is “very excited” to be a big sister.
Katherine’s UK tour titled Missus is due to take place from November 2021 to May 2022, after the September 2021 release of her book The Audacity.
