Kate Moss speaks during Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial

Kate Moss gave a “simple and unemotional” testimony in Johnny Depp’s US defamation case against his ex wife Amber Heard on Wednesday, says body language expert Judi James.

The supermodel, 48, appeared via video link in Fairfax County District Court from Gloucestershire after Amber, 36, mentioned her by name when giving testimony previously.

Commenting on her body language, Judi James told the Mirror: “The very private Kate Moss is something of a silent movie star and this is one of the few times her voice has been heard in public.

“She sits straight and upright to face the camera, looking more like a bank manager than a supermodel in her dark jacket and tie-neck blouse and her body language as she speaks is a sparse as her words.

“Her facial expression is impassive and pretty much continues to be.

“Asked if she took a vacation with Jonny her ‘Yes’ is almost bitten, with her jaws opening and clamping.”

Amber had previously described hearing a rumour that Johnny had pushed Kate down a flight of stairs, and had recalled it in an altercation between the actor and her sister Whitney.

Speaking from Gloucestershire, Kate said the allegation over the incident at the GoldenEye resort in Jamaica was not true, and Johnny had come to her aid.

“No, he never pushed me, kicked me or pushed me down any stairs”, Kate told the court.

Commenting on her body language, Judi said: “Asked if anything happened her eyes go up to her left for an ‘um’ thinking pause and when she does begin describing the stairs incident she uses a right hand in a flap gesture when she says Jonny left the room, then again in a double flap to say how she slid down the stairs.”

“It is a simple and unemotional testimony delivered in a high, youthful tone.”

Kate and the actor dated between 1994 and 1997.

During her testimony, the supermodel explained how she had fallen down the stairs during a holiday with Johnny – with the actor being the one to pick her up and “get her medical attention”.

“As I left the room, I slid down the stairs and I hurt my back,” Kate said.

“And I screamed because I didn’t know what had happened to me and I was in pain. And he came running back to help me and carried me to my room and got me medical attention.”

Amber’s team chose not to cross-examine Kate, who was released by judge Penney Azcarate.

Kate and Johnny’s relationship ended over 20 years ago, but alleged incidents from their time together have been revisited during the defamation trial.

The trial continues.
