Jurgen Klopp claims being top of the Premier League is the furthest thing from his mind following Liverpool’s goalless draw at Newcastle.
Despite dropping four points in the past three days the Reds remain top of the pile going into the New Year.
Successive draws have opened the door for the chasing pack who can now close the gap.
But the season is not yet half completed with the majority of teams playing 16 times.
Klopp’s side are aiming to retain their Premier League crown in a season that has bought with it unique circumstances.
And the German is not concerned by their current league position as he highlights the amount of points also being dropped by their rivals.
“The last thing I’m thinking about is our position in the table at the moment,” he said on Amazon Prime.
“It’s nice but it doesn’t mean anything.
“We drew now the last two games and are still top of the table in a very difficult season, it just shows how difficult this season is for everybody.
“Other teams won, maybe last night, but we are in a good mood, as good as possible.
“Like we say, if life gives you lemons, make lemonade. That’s how it is and that’s what we try to think all the time.”
Liverpool were unable to secure the three points at St James’ Park despite dominating for much of the contest.
The game’s two best chances both fell to Mohamed Salah but the normally dependable Egyptian twice spurned the opportunity.
Klopp though remained upbeat citing the quality of his team’s display in the north east.
“We’ve found a lot of solutions today in the game,” he added. “Created chances, crazy chances, unbelievably big chances, didn’t take them, it’s true, that’s why it’s 0-0.
“I liked the game. There are different draws in your life and this is one that we’re not happy about the result, obviously, but I’m really fine with the performance.
“Because that’s the way we have to play, that’s the way we have to create, that’s the way we have to protect.
“We did all that so, still of course disappointing, but it is what it is.”
