Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has warned his players that they won’t be allowed to sulk if they miss out on Champions League qualification, and vowed to “sort” any negative situation.
The reigning Premier League champions are on the verge of losing their crown, with Manchester City set to reclaim the title.
Liverpool’s defence of the crown has been appalling, but can partly be excused by injuries to the likes of Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara.
Despite a promising start, the Reds are facing the prospect of finishing out of the European spots in the table, leaving them with no continental action next season.
That could have disastrous implications for Klopp’s squad, with talk of some of their top talent being poached if they do end up missing out.
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and even Van Dijk have all been tentatively linked with moves away.
However, Klopp has warned his players that they cannot afford to mope around if they can’t qualify for the Champions League.
Speaking prior to his side’s must-win game against Southampton, the German boss vowed to “recognise” any negative situation next season.
“The reaction from this season we will show together as well,” he explained.
