Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann says he messaged Ralf Rangnick to tell him it’s ‘great’ that he is taking up the role of interim manager at Manchester United.

The German is in line to take over at Old Trafford until the end of the season following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last Sunday.

Rangnick is set to complete the switch once his work permit has been approved and isn’t likely to be in the dugout for United’s clash away at Chelsea on Sunday.

Following the conclusion of his interim spell at end of the season, the 63-year-old will take up a consultancy role at United.

Rangnick inspired a generation of coaches with his pressing philosophy – including former Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig boss Nagelsmann – and has been backed to bring success to the Theatre of Dreams.

‘I texted him and told him I think it’s great,’ said Nagelsmann.

‘He will do United very well with the way he plays football.

‘I believe that United will play good games in the next few weeks and I wish he’ll stay there longer than just next summer.’

Another manager who regards Rangnick as an inspiration is Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, who has admitted that a ‘good coach’ is on his way to the Premier League.

‘Yeah, unfortunately, a good coach is coming to England, that’s how it is, to Manchester United,’ said Klopp on Friday.

‘He’s obviously a really, really experienced manager. He built most famously two clubs from nowhere to proper threats and proper forces in Germany with Hoffenheim and Leipzig.

‘He’s done a lot of different jobs in football but always his first concern was being a coach actually, being a manager, and that’s what his best skill is obviously.

‘United will be organised, I think, on the pitch. I think we should realise that and that’s obviously not good news for other teams.’
