Judd Trump had little time for celebration after his Champion of Champions glory on Sunday night, already turning his focus to this week’s UK Championship which gets underway on Tuesday.

The Champion of Champions has become one of the biggest events on the calendar, but there is almost no break before an even bigger tournament begins in York.

The Ace turned in a dominant display to beat John Higgins 10-4 in Bolton on Sunday but asked about his celebrations to come, it didn’t sound like there would be much fanfare at all.

‘We’ve got a big tournament coming up in York next week so this is a big stepping stone, I’ve got a nice drive home now,’ Trump said on ITV.

‘It’s my first win of the season and it’s a massive one, but there are a lot of other major events coming up and hopefully this will kick-start my campaign.

‘The standard is so high that any final you reach is incredible. To get this one under my belt early in the season, hopefully I can take some momentum from here.’

It was indeed Trump’s first win of the season after a slow start by his immense standards, but he is coming into form at an ideal time with the UK Championship, Scottish Open and World Grand Prix all still to come before Christmas.

‘It’s just nice to get one of the big ones out of the way early on in the season, a lot of big ones coming up, but it’s just nice to get any event under your belt,’ he told Live Snooker.

Trump does have a couple of days off before starting his bid for a second UK Championship title of his career, taking on David Lilley in the first round in York on Thursday night.

The 32-year-old’s only UK title came 10 years ago, remarkably, although he has twice made it to the final since, including last year.

The epic conclusion to the tournament in 2020 saw Trump lose 10-9 to Neil Robertson, with the Ace spurning a great chance on the final pink and black to get his hands on the trophy.

He will be trying to put that right this year and is the favourite with the bookmakers to do so.
