Jose Mourinho was pleased that his Tottenham Hotspur side managed to pick up three points against Marco Bielsa’s Leeds but hailed their next opponents Aston Villa as his ‘favourite team’ in the Premier League.

Spurs climbed to third in the table with a 3-0 win over Leeds on Saturday lunchtime, with Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min again playing pivotal roles in their success.

Kane opened the scoring from the penalty spot, with Son adding a second as he latched onto a beautiful cross from Kane.

Asked if it was important to win to start the year off well, Mourinho told BT Sport: ‘No, people were saying after we played the considered top-six teams that easier matches were coming.

‘Of course, I don’t believe in it.

‘Leeds is a team capable to create problems to anyone and the next one, Aston Villa, is my favourite team in the Premier League at the moment.

‘It’s a team that I enjoy more to watch, a team with lots of very good players, of course, very well coached.

‘And this is what is waiting for us.’

Discussing Kane and Son’s roles in the victory over Leeds, Mourinho added: ‘Of course, the understanding is good and against Leeds it was important to have that ability in attack.

‘They stay man-to-man so if you stay static you give them an easy job. That movement of Harry Kane and Sonny in the finishing positions fit well.

‘I think in the Premier League there are many good players everywhere even in clubs where you don’t believe they can have great players. But I have to say that Sonny and Harry are doing special things this season.

‘I want goals coming from other players and I want them to feel like they can express themselves. We had Toby [Alderweireld] of course in set-plays.

‘We have played in other positions to score. We have players from other positions appearing in finishing positions which is what I want from them.’
