Jose Mourinho mocks Manchester United after Anthony Martial’s sending off

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho rubbed salt into the wounds of Manchester United after his side’s 6-1 victory at Old Trafford.

United were humiliated in their own back garden by a ruthless display from the Portuguese’s side, who inflicted the joint-worst defeat of the Premier League era on the Red Devils.

The hosts took the lead through Bruno Fernandes but Heung-Min Son and Tanguy Ndombele put the visitors ahead and they were banging on the door to extend their lead before Anthony Martial was sent off.

The Frenchman struck Erik Lamela in the face after the Argentine elbowed Martial while Spurs were preparing to take a corner. The two incidents were very similar but it was Martial that was sent off and the VAR review failed to either request the same for Lamela or to reduce Martial’s to a yellow.

United were already a goal behind and their day went from bad to worse as Spurs scored two quickly to effectively wrap up the three points.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was furious with Martial’s sending off and spoke with the officials on full-time but Mourinho has taken a dig at his former employers by saying they’re the last club that should complain about VAR decisions.

Asked about the sending off and if United had a valid reason for complaint, Mourinho replied: ‘If somebody cannot cry abut VAR decisions, it is Manchester United for sure’.

The Spurs boss took a dig at the fact that United were awarded a penalty after the full time whistle against Brighton last week.

United were awarded a penalty after just 28 seconds when Davinson Sanchez tripped Martial, though Mourinho could hardly have a complaint at the decision.

He was, however, furious that Spurs conceded a last minute penalty against Newcastle last week that denied them all three points.

Following Martial’s sending off, Spurs added another two goals quickly before the break and they confirmed their dominance after the restart with goals from Harry Kane and Serge Aurier.
