Jose Mourinho expects England to reach the final of Euro 2020 after they beat Germany to book their place in the quarter-finals.

Second-half goals from Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane helped England to a famous 2-0 win over Germany at Wembley on Tuesday evening.

It was England’s first win over Germany in a tournament knockout match since they won the World Cup in 1966.

Gareth Southgate’s side topped their group with two wins and one draw and are now just three victories away from winning the European Championships for the first time in history.

England will face Ukraine or Sweden in the quarter-finals and, if they progress, a semi-final meeting with Denmark or the Czech Republic awaits.

Mourinho was impressed by England’s victory over Germany and now expects the Three Lions to progress to the final, where they could meet Switzerland, Spain, Belgium or Italy.

‘I watched the game that I was expecting to watch,’ the former Tottenham, Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid manager told talkSPORT.

‘A big game, the duals were there. Both teams respect each other a lot but England, in my opinion, were very solid, very solid and in the right moment they were there.

‘They had that bit of luck you need, too. I’m really happy for Southgate and the players and the England fans because it’s a great moment.

‘I’m thinking that maybe it is coming home but it’s not yet coming home. We need to be balanced now, there’s still a long way to go.

‘I don’t see England losing against one of the four teams they can play in the quarter-final or semi-final but you need to respect football. France are not there because they didn’t respect the game.

‘I think they are ready for everything and I will be really disappointed if they don’t get to the final.’

Tottenham striker Kane had endured a frustrating tournament before his goal against Germany, failing to score during the group stage.

But he was delighted to score for England during their ‘amazing’ win at Wembley and insisted afterwards that Southgate’s side were capable of winning the tournament.

‘It’s an amazing day and it was an amazing game,’ he said. ‘To hear Wembley like this was a moment none of us will ever forget.

‘It’s the perfect afternoon. We will enjoy this one but we have another big one on Saturday now.

‘You have to be ready for the next chance. Jack [Grealish] put in a great cross and I was able to put it in. All strikers want to score goals.

‘It was good to score my first in the tournament and hopefully I can score more from now until the end.

‘Any team will be looking at us and know that we’re dangerous. Of course we want to to score goals and we’re keeping clean sheets.

‘We need to get it right on Saturday now. We can’t switch off. We want to go all the way so need to keep it up.

‘There isn’t anything bigger than this when the expectation is on and we delivered so we should be proud but we can’t stop here.

‘We have a vision of where we want to go and we can’t stop now. Hopefully we’ll be back here in the semi-finals and the final.’
