Jorge Masvidal is ‘dead serious’ about fighting Canelo Alvarez in the boxing ring as he looks for a money fight after beating Nate Diaz at UFC 244.

Gamebred completed a dream 2019 with his win over Diaz by making it three stoppage victories from three fights, having already knocked out Darren Till and Ben Askren this year.

The 34-year-old is now aiming big, with a UFC welterweight title shot a possibility, a clash with Conor McGregor being talked about, but also a boxing bout with Canelo.

The Mexican superstar won a world title at a fourth weight class on Saturday by knocking out Sergey Kovalev for his WBO light heavyweight title in Las Vegas.

Alvarez is earning $35m for each bout of his 10-fight deal with DAZN, while Masvidal reportedly earned $500,000 for his win over Diaz, showing the disparity between top level boxing and UFC fighters’ earning potential.

‘I’m open to the money and [Diaz is] a money fight. If Canelo wants to get his ass kicked, that’s a fight I’ll take,’ Masvidal said after UFC 244.

‘I can box. I can hit hard. I’ve got different angles. I’m not going to get tired in a 12 round boxing event, especially if I have time to prepare for it. It’s just kind of fate. He’s fighting today, I’m fighting today. I heard we f*****g killed him on the pay-per-views.

‘I don’t know I’d like to break his face. Just fight, just test myself, make a lot of money for testing myself. But I truly feel I could make it 1-1 MMA versus boxing.’

Gamebred doubled down on his promise on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, explaining why he could challenge Canelo in his own sport.

‘I’m dead serious about trying to fight Canelo Alvarez,’ said Masvidal. ‘Give me a nice little change, I’ll take my talents over there. I’m going for the off button, I feel like I can shock the world.

‘Is Canelo a better boxer than me? Has he thrown 10,000 jabs more than me because that’s what he does morning and night? Yeah, he’s a better boxer.

‘But can I bring some elements that boxers ain’t used to that are in the legal realm of boxing and throw Canelo completely off his game? F*** yes, man.

‘I’m a naturally bigger dude. I punch like a f*****g truck. If I got boxing gloves on, I’m not afraid of breaking my hand because I got that cast on so I’ll be swinging extra harder. I feel like I could be a legitimate threat in there.’

The chances of Masvidal fighting Canelo are extremely slim, with a number of appealing UFC bouts ahead of the BMF title winner in 2020.

Gamebred will most likely either take on the winner of Kamaru Usman vs Colby Covington, who fight for the welterweight title in December, a returning Conor McGregor, or Diaz in a rematch.
