It has been almost four months since 30-year-old Jesy released her debut solo single, Boyz, to a the sound of a deafening backlash as she was blasted for apparent cultural appropriation due to the accompanying music video released at the same time as the single.

Jesy appears to finally be putting the scandal behind her and is in Los Angeles creating new music to share with fans in the coming year.

Taking to Instagram Stories on Friday afternoon, the former Little Mix star shared a short clip of herself and two men in a music room playing back a tune.

Focusing the camera first on herself before she panned around to show the two men she was working with, Jesy giggled as she branded them: “Rat bag number one. Rat bag number two.”

Fans were able to hear the slightest hint of music in the background as the trio looked at a laptop screen while the melodic sound of a guitar being gently strummed filled the air.

Fans have been driven wild by Jesy’s work trip to the USA – as they have been begging her to share details of when a new track will be available to hear.

Fortunately, she was soon back in the spotlight in 2021 – with fans eager to hear her debut solo single which was ultimately released following reported delays last October.

Unfortunately, the song’s accompanying music video provoked a furious backlash from music fans – who accused Jesy of appropriating black culture and promoting damaging racial stereotypes.

The backlash engulfed her old band – with Leigh-Anne Pinnock being dragged into the debate as it was suggested she urged an influencer to make a video criticising Jesy.

Jesy defended herself in an interview with Vulture following the backlash, telling the publication: “I’m very aware that I’m a white British woman; I’ve never said that I wasn’t.

“But I mean, like, I love Black culture. I love Black music. That’s all I know; it’s what I grew up on.”
