A FORMER best friend of Jeffrey Epstein has described the wealthy paedophile’s victims as “trollops” and claimed he was a sex addict.
Industrialist and art collector Stuart Pivar has given lengthy interview about Epstein, who took his own life in a New York jail while awaiting trial on child sex-trafficking charges.
A number of women have come forward to say they were abused by the 66-year-old Epstein, who was jailed in 2008 for sex offences including soliciting a minor for prostitution.
Pivar, 89, spoke to Mother Jones in which he defended his friend and tried to claim his victims were “complicit”.
He repeatedly used the word “trollop” to describe the women who have made allegations against Epstein, who he said was “his best pal for decades” until they fell out.
“If Jeffrey Epstein was found guilty of fooling around with one 16-year-old trollop, nobody would pay any attention,” he said.
“The trouble is, what he did was quantitative and not qualitative.
“He did stuff with underage girls who knew what the hell they were doing. By the hundreds.
“What Jeffrey did is nothing in comparison to the rapes and the forceful things, which people did. “Jeffrey had to do with a bunch of women who were totally complicit.”
He also sought to explain Epstein’s behaviour as being the result of illness.
“And the idea that no one has recognized that Jeffrey was profoundly sick, with a male counterpart of nymphomania, which he could not control,” he said.
But he claimed never to have witnessed Epstein’s depraved antics at close hand nor to have visited his infamous “Isle of Babes” – the Caribbean bolthole, known by locals as “Paedophile Island”.
“I never saw him fool around with—in fact, Jeffrey was a very, very close friend of mine.
“And he shielded me. I never saw what he did until finally I did notice certain things, and that was the end of me having to do with him.”
Epstein’s friendship with Prince Andrew has come under the spotlight in recent days.
The 59-year-old Duke of York has faced claims by Epstein’s alleged teen sex slave Virginia Roberts, and that she was paid to sleep with him three times.
The accusations in legal documents released in a defamation case Roberts had brought against Maxwell.
She claims she first met royal dad-of-two Prince Andrew on a trip to London in 2001 when she was 17 and Epstein and Maxwell were also there.
The Prince strongly denied having sex with her in London and New York, and a year later at an orgy on Epstein’s private island in the Virgin Islands.
Buckingham Palace have said: “This relates to proceedings in the United States, to which the Duke of York is not a party.
“Any suggestion of impropriety with underage minors is categorically untrue.
“It is emphatically denied that the Duke had any form of sexual contact or relationship with Virginia Roberts.
“Any claim to the contrary is false and without foundation.”
