The 60-year-old comedian revealed last week that she had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and urged anyone with symptoms to get them checked out.
The comedian wrote: “So in 7 weeks time (due to me having Covid just now) I go in for a full hysterectomy and removal of some lymph nodes, with the possibility of chemo to follow after they check all the bits they whip out, thanks everyone for kind thoughts I <3 NHS #myreluctantovarianCancerJourney.”
Godley gained fame during the pandemic due to her voice-over sketches of Nicola Sturgeon’s Government coronavirus briefings, as many saw her comedy as some light in a dark time.
Fans rushed to social media to share their support for the comic.
One user wrote: “You’ll find this hard to believe right now, but when you’re well you’ll realise that you’ve learned a million things about yourself, about what really matters and who really matters. Everything comes into sharp focus. You’ve been given a key to understanding.”
Another said: “Relieved they’ve given you a plan of action, Janey. IMO not knowing is the worst part. Waiting is the second worst part. Sending strength, love and hope xo”
Someone replied: “Hi Janey when I had cancer 15 years ago I had this operation. I was given lots of info about the cancer and treatment but what I held onto most was being told that I would be ok. I’m passing that on to you, Janey you’ll be ok. Best of everything x”
Janey posted a heartfelt thank-you on social media to her fans across the UK who came to her tour before her diagnosis.
She wrote: “Because my tour ended so abruptly due to ill health, I never got a chance to thank everyone who came out to the shows up and down the UK and packed out all the venues.
“Thank you so much to every theatre who supported me and every audience member who cheered me on that tour.”
We wish Janey a speedy recover!
