Jamie Carragher reckons Manchester United’s comeback win over Atalanta will give them confidence against Liverpool.

The Red Devils host rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday looking to build on their second-half performance against Atalanta in the Champions League as they came from two goals down to win 3-2.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side had a poor first half but goals from Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo spared his blushes.

While many thought it was a performance that papered over the cracks under Solskjaer, the fight United showed to come from behind has left Liverpool legend Carragher with some concerns.

‘I could see Man United winning this game,’ he told Sky Sports. ‘I think certainly on the back of what happened on Wednesday night, the atmosphere will be fantastic, especially at the start of the game.

‘Man United at home against Liverpool notoriously, going back 10 or 15 years, they’ve had Liverpool’s number in the fixture.

‘Liverpool have found it really difficult to win at Old Trafford and going back a long time, even the great Liverpool teams, it’s always been a venue Liverpool have struggled at.

‘Even in Jurgen Klopp’s time, I think he’s only won there once so it will always be a tough game for Liverpool no matter what the circumstances are or the quality of Man United.’

Liverpool sit second in the Premier League table, four points above their sixth-placed opponents, and also go into the match off the back of a 3-2 win in the Champions League.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were far from convincing at the back in their trip to Atletico Madrid but Carragher still insists his former side have a better team than United.

‘But there’s no doubt that going into the game, Liverpool are a better team,’ he added.

‘They’ve proven that over the last few years and at the start of this season and if Liverpool play well, that could be enough to win.

‘But even if they do win this game, it will be very tight. Man United have got great players, they’re at home with a great atmosphere against a club who notoriously don’t do well in this venue.’
