Jack Wilshere speaks out on potential Arsenal return

Jack Wilshere says it would be ‘the dream’ to go back to Arsenal, but accepts there is little chance of a dramatic return to his former club happening.

The Gunners are struggling for creativity in midfield and have found the back of the net just once in their last five Premier League games.

Following last weekend’s goalless draw with Leeds United at Elland Road, Wilshere lightheartedly offered up his services in response to Arsenal fan and broadcaster Piers Morgan questioning Mikel Arteta’s side poor form.

The 28-year-old is without a club after reaching an agreement with West Ham to terminate his contract in October.

And when asked if he would consider a pay-as-you-play deal back at Arsenal, Wilshere told The ITV Football Football Show: ‘You never know, I’m an Arsenal man.

‘There’s nothing, I’ve not spoken to anyone or anything. But that would be the dream.

‘I’m not stupid to know that there’s probably no chance of it happening.

‘But I’m an Arsenal man, I love the club, I want to see the club to do well.’

Wilshere quickly became a fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium after rising through Arsenal’s academy and bursting onto the scene as a 16-year-old.

However, the midfielder’s progress was hampered by multiple injuries over his near 17-year spell with the Gunners and he eventually ended up joining West Ham in 2018.
