ITV Racing tips from Newsboy on day one of the Newmarket July Festival

AL AASY is impossible to get away from in the Group 2 Princess of Wales’s Tattersalls Stakes (3.35) at Newmarket today.

The feature race of the Moët & Chandon July Festival’s opening day has attracted a field of five – and William Haggas’s four-year-old, a facile winner of two Group 3 contests at Newbury on his first two attempts of 2021, stands out after his neck second to Pyledriver in the top-level Coronation Cup at Epsom last month.

Rain-softened conditions for Royal Ascot ’s Commonwealth Cup worked against JUMBY, who is capable of a big run in the Each Way Extra At bet365 Handicap (3.00).

Before his ascent into Group 1 company, Eve Johnson Houghton’s top weight had shown himself to be on the up with a half-length call over Jadwal over the final six furlongs of the Rowley Mile in May – and there is very likely more to come.

The Group 2 Tattersalls July Stakes (2.25) provides a good opportunity for ELDRICKJONES to win a race at his third attempt.

Denied by a nose at Thirsk on his racecourse bow, the Roger Fell-trained youngster ran a 66-1 stormer when second to Berkshire Shadow in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot – and would have got closer to the winner but for meeting with trouble in running.

Another to perform with distinction in defeat on the royal heath was Queen’s Vase third STOWELL, who should justify favouritism in the Group 3 Bahrain Trophy (1.50).

Frankie Dettori’s mount came from the back to finish two and three-quarter lengths adrift of Kemari – the unfolding of the race suited those who held prominent pitches – and the step down from Group 3 level is another aid to Stowell’s chance.

The ITV3 cameras are also in action at Carlisle, where LADY CELIA deserves a change of luck in the six-furlong OEE “Making The Best Better” EBF Fillies’ Handicap (2.05) after near-misses over five at Hamilton Park on her last two starts.
