Inspector killed in Delta community, rifle carted away

A gang of criminals stormed Ashaka Community in the Ndokwa-East Local Government Area of Delta State on Tuesday, killing a police inspector identified as Musa, burnt a police patrol van and carted away an AK-47 service rifle of the slain inspector.

The PUNCH gathered that trouble started as early as 4.30 am when three police men of Ashaka division were at their routine checkpoint in front of Matar-Dei Grammar School gate when the three hoodlums on a motorcycle attacked the police team with daggers and axes.

In the cause of the attack, the police patrol team leader, Musa, was reportedly killed, while the other two sustained varied degrees of injuries.

Sources said the policemen tried to fight off the hoodlums, but they were overwhelmed.

A source said the policemen shouted for help during the struggle with the attackers.

Neither the Ashaka Divisional Police Officer nor the acting state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, could be reached for comments on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
