Highland Spring is to cut more than 30 jobs and reduce pay across the board as the bottled water business struggles with the impact of the pandemic.

The company is to enter redundancy talks with the workforce with the majority of jobs expected to go at its depot at Lennoxtown, East Dunbartonshire which currently employs 83 people.

The remainder of jobs shed will be at its Perthshire headquarters.

A company spokeswoman said: “We are proposing a headcount reduction of 27 roles at our Fells site in Lennoxtown, Glasgow, and five roles at our Ochils site in Blackford, Perthshire.”

All staff have been informed of an “across-the-board salary reduction” which will run at least until the middle of 2021.

The company currently has a total workforce of 400 across its four sites in Scotland and one in Wales.

A Highland Spring spokeswoman said: “These proposals have been introduced as a result of the financial impact of Covid-19 on the Highland Spring Group and to support the long-term sustainability of the company.”

The group reported an annual profits slump to £520,000 in October, down from £3.3m previously.

The company is owned by Mahid Al Tajir of Dubai who has been reported to have a fortune of £1.6bn.
