Hero teacher mum saved her class of pupils from gun massacre while her own teen son was shot dead in next room

A TEACHER saved her students after the school was under attack by a lone gunman as her own son was shot dead in the next classroom.

Alina Zaripova, 42, calmly barricaded the door and told her students to hide under their desks as an ex-student with a gun stormed the school in the Russian city of Kazan.

She comforted her students as they heard ear-piercing gunshots from down the hall – where her son Amir Zaripov, 14, was tragically shot dead.

The former student rampaged through the school School number 175 in Kazan with a gun and explosives on May 11.

Twenty other people, mostly children, were injured in the shooting.

This comes as another teacher, Elvira Ignatieva, 25, used her body as a shield to protect her students.

The young teacher, who was about to celebrate her 26th birthday party, reportedly heard a commotion in the corridor and went out to see what was happening when she saw the gunmen and tried to tackle him.

Eyewitnesses said that she had spotted him taking aim at a student, and without thinking of her own safety, had run over and pushed the student to safety, and paid for her heroic action with her life.

It turns out, instead of saving her son, the teacher saved us

Sofia, a survivor of the attack

They said that she had been left standing in the way of the bullets and after being shot had died from her injuries.

She had graduated from the Kazan Federal University with honours, and in 2018 had taken second place in the “teacher of the year” competition.

Ilnaz Galyaviev, 19, now detained on suspicion of mass murder, claimed he was God and had a “monster inside me” and vowed to kill “a big amount of bio trash”.

The slain children – four boys and three girls – were named as Amir Shaikhutdinov, 14, Amir Volkov, 15, Amir Zaripov, 14, Damir Gainutdinov, 14, Zulfiya Galimzyanova, 15, Ilziya Nagimullina, 14, and Alisa Garifullina, 15.

Sofia, a student in Alina’s class, said: “It turns out, instead of saving her son, the teacher saved us …”

“We heard such bangs many times, there was a strange noise and people were crying,” she added.

When rescuers took them out “we saw windows, the wreckage of doors on the floor and realised that something very terrible had definitely happened” Sofia recalled.

“It was only then that we understood that we were separated by only one wall from the place where our friends had died.

“We realised that the maniac with the weapon could also have got to us.

“It turns out, instead of saving her son, the teacher saved us .”

A male classmate Daniyar, said: “We sat on the floor under the back row desks, and heard an explosion and shooting.

SCHOOL BLOODSHED

“The teacher was with us all the time until the rescuers and head teachers knocked on the door told us it was safe to go out.

“When everything was over and we were out of the building, the teacher started looking for her son.

“We saw how she called, cried, searched for her son, but could not find him.”

The suspect had left the school in the same year it was joined by the 25-year-old teacher he was later to shoot and kill. It was reported that he was never in any of her classes.

He apparently posted hate messages on social media shortly before the killing and previously posted messages including announcing that he “hated everyone” and that he believed he was a God.

Russian PM Mikhail Mishustin spoke of “great sorrow” while Tatarstan’s leader Rustam Minnikhanov described the attack as a “major tragedy”.

He said: “We are deeply saddened that this has happened.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin said he would review the country’s gun control laws as a result of the shooting.
