Former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright has hailed Didier Drogba and says the Premier League legend ‘did literally everything’ for Chelsea.

Ivory Coast hero Drogba spent eight years at Stamford Bridge, playing nearly 400 games for the club and helping Chelsea win four Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League.

It was Drogba who scored the winning penalty in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich in 2012 as Chelsea lifted the trophy for the first time in their history.

Arsenal legend Wright has heaped praise on Drogba and says he ‘covered every base’ and ‘did literally everything’ for Chelsea.

‘The thing with him [Drogba], I think he was in danger of people judging him for the antics, for going down too easy for a big man,’ Wright said on the Wrighty’s House podcast.

‘I thought that was a bit harsh simply because of what he did go through, he was right to go down.

‘Yes, there were some times when he shouldn’t have. But in respect to the number nine, and the way he played that role on his own up there, just covering all the bases, literally doing everything.

‘Scoring the goals, linking up the play, taking free-kicks, getting assists. He was the one, for me, that made people say, “that’s where we need to go, that’s how we’ve got to do it”.’

Current Chelsea striker Timo Werner, meanwhile, has revealed Drogba was one of four Blues heroes he idolised as a child.

‘The Premier League has become bigger and bigger and now it is the best league in the whole world,’ Werner said in an interview with Three.

‘For me it is a little bit of a dream come true to come and play now in the biggest league in the whole world.

‘Of course as a child you don’t see much of the Premier League clubs but you see the teams at the Champions League.

‘You see the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United. These were the clubs that in youth were winning a lot.

‘You see maybe young Ronaldo, or here at Chelsea Didier Drogba and also Frank Lampard the manager. They have a lot of legends in the club here.

‘When you come into the club they are working for the club and when you see them as a child, like 10, and then you see, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, Petr Cech, you say wow it’s crazy I am here with them now. It is a lot of fun.’
