HARRY MAGUIRE wants to become captain of Manchester United.
The England defender is still pushing for a move away from Leicester, who are still demanding up to £85million.
But Maguire, also a target of Manchester City, believes he has the right temperament to skipper one of Europe’s biggest club sides.
Although he grew up as Sheffield United supporter, Maguire’s defensive heroes were United stars Steve Bruce, Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
If Maguire completes a move to Old Trafford, he knows he would not immediately land the armband – with Paul Pogba a shock contender.
But the centre-back believes he could persuade boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to one day given him the job as club captain.
Leicester are still at a stand-off with both United and City, who have both bid £70m.
Maguire featured for Leicester in their 1-0 win at Scunthorpe on Tuesday with Brendan Rodgers confirming that the club’s valuation had not been met.
The Northern Irishman also warned United to get on with the transfer or face rejection.
And if the deal does go through, Leicester look set to replace Maguire with Brighton’s Lewis Dunk after SunSport exclusively revealed the clubs had agreed a £45m deal.
