The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped out at Olympic Park stadium on Saturday night for the first of two Major League Baseball games between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. For one of her earliest public appearances since the birth of baby Archie in May, Meghan wore a belted dress by Stella McCartney paired with ballet flats from Aquazzura. Harry, meanwhile, opted for an Invictus Games polo, the Duke of Sussex’s long-term charitable initiative, which the couple was there to support.
During a visit with the respective teams before the game, the royal couple was gifted with a Red Sox romper and a miniature Yankees jersey for Archie. The Duke and Duchess then stood in the field to watch the ceremonial first pitch – thrown by We Are Invictus competitors – as America’s national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner”, played for the crowd. Meghan is still currently on maternity leave and is expected to return to full public duty at some point in the autumn.
“On this #ArmedForcesDay, tonight’s event was also a chance for Their Royal Highnesses to shine a light on the men and women here in the UK and around the world who have sacrificed so much for their country,” it was revealed on the Sussex Royal Instagram page. The rare public outing comes days after it was announced that the Duke and Duchess will carry out a royal tour of Southern Africa at the end of this year with baby Archie in tow. The pair will visit South Africa together, with Harry paying additional visits to Malawi, Angola, and Botswana, where the couple famously shared a holiday early in their relationship.
