343 Industries have begun work on bringing Halo 3 to PC, and it hopes to have a public test out within the first half of June.

Halo 2 has only been out on PC for two weeks, and 343 Industries are already hard at work on giving its sequel, Halo 3, the same treatment.

In a blog post on Halo Waypoint, community manager Tyler ‘Postums’ Davis confirmed that the studio had begun beta-testing Halo 3. Specifically, he wrote ‘we are already underway with early stages of flighting in Ring 1.’

For those who don’t know, ‘flighting’ is a Microsoft term used to describe a beta.

Development is split into different stages of test flights, referred to as ‘rings,’ after which a public test of the game is released before officially shipping.

This is a process all the previous Halo titles included in The Master Chief Collection have gone through.

A specific release date wasn’t given but Davis hopes that the public test will be available within the first half of June.

‘Next week, we aim to get the completely paired down flight build into our partners hands, which is much sooner than usual. Our goal is to have the Halo 3 public flight kicked off in the first half of June.’

Given that all the previous games have released roughly a month or so following their public tests, it’s now suspected that Halo 3 will release on PC at some point in July.

Anyone who wishes to take part in the test will need to register with the Halo Insider Program.
