When it comes to combating the dreaded hair loss condition, tea tree essential oil could be one of the most inexpensive and natural ways to help stimulate hair growth. As compared to store-bought hair products, which may contain chemicals that can be harmful for hair in the longer run, using tea tree oil is a completely natural remedy that works for most people.
Tea tree oil is an essential oil derived from the leaves of the tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia), which is native to Australia.
Like other essential oils, tea tree oil has been used medicinally for hundreds of years.
With all the severe chemicals found in hair products today, you could be stripping your hair follicle of much-needed nutrients. If you use a lot of products or dye your hair often, you can put your hair at risk of breaking off or falling out.
Using small amounts of diluted tea tree oil down the shaft of the hair will help prevent build-up of chemicals and dead skin. This keeps your hair healthy and moisturized, which can help it grow at its normal rate and prevent it from falling out.
In a study published in the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, the antimicrobial and medicinal properties of tea tree oil was investigated.
The study noted: “Complementary and alternative medicines such as tea tree (melaleuca) oil have become increasingly popular in recent decades.
“The primary uses of tea tree oil have historically capitalized on the antiseptic and anti-inflammatory actions of the oil.
“Of all of the properties claimed for tea tree oil, its antimicrobial activity has received the most attention.
Tea tree oil has powerful cleansing, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. When used topically, it can help unplug hair follicles and increase hair growth.
Tea tree oils come in many concentrations, so its important to follow the manufacturer’s directions and some are highly concentrated and other products are mixed in a cream or oil.
The recommended amount to use is a maximum of 10 drops of tea tree essential oil into your shampoo or conditioner and use it daily.
Or, mix three drops with two tablespoons of a carrier oil and leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing it out.
Tea tree oil can be an effective way to help with dandruff and get healthy hair, said Healthline.
The health site added: “Look for it in the ingredient list of your shampoo.
“You should always test it on your skin before use, as it can be mildly irritating to some people.
