A security researcher claims he successfully managed to hack in to Donald Trump’s personal Twitter account after guessing the password.

Victor Gevers says the password to the president’s Twitter profile was ‘maga2020!’ – something the White House has denied.

According to a report in Dutch newspaper Vrij Nederland, Gevers guessed the password on the fifth attempt and secured a screengrab to prove he gained access.

He then alerted the US government and suggested that Trump may want to update his security settings.

As well as the White House issuing a denial, Twitter itself says that it has seen no evidence to support the claim.

‘The Dutchman alerted Trump and American government services to the security leak. After a few days, he was contacted by the American Secret Service in the Netherlands. This agency is also responsible for the security of the American President and took the report seriously, as evidenced by correspondence seen by de Volkskrant,’ the paper reported.

‘Meanwhile Trump’s account has been made more secure.’

Juddson Deere, the White House deputy press secretary, also told The Independent the claims are ‘absolutely not true but we don’t comment on security procedures around the President’s social media accounts.’
