The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a policeman and a military officer by gunmen at a military checkpoint at Oton area of Sapele on Sunday.
The deceased were shot dead when bandits attacked the military post at the entrance of the community.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident to journalists in Warri on Monday.
The PPRO, however, said no arrest had been made in connecting with the killings.
PUNCH Metro gathered from sources that the gunmen stormed the community through the Oton River in Sapele to kidnap prominent persons in the area.
The sources, however, said security personnel were repelling the bandits when gunshots from the invading gunmen hit the policeman and the soldier.
It was not clear if any of the bandits was killed during the attack, which sources said had caused tension in the community as military troops from the 19 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Moko, had been deployed in the area.
