International IT firm CGI has been unveiled as the main sponsor of Southern Knights in the debut season of the FOSROC Super6 rugby competition.
The semi-professional team based in Melrose will wear the name of the Canadian group which has offices in the Borders, Edinburgh and Glasgow employing just over 500 people. The new domestic league formed by six of Scotland’s top clubs kicks off on Friday night. The Knights will play their first match on Saturday 9 November against Watsonians at the Greenyards.
Founded in 1976, CGI is among the largest independent IT and business consulting services firms in the world.
Lindsay McGranaghan, CGI’s recently appointed vice president for Scotland, said: “CGI is delighted to sponsor the Southern Knights this season and we wish them the very best of luck for the coming campaign in what promises to be a very exciting time for the team.
“In addition to the sponsorship of professional sport, we are also committed to encouraging grass roots sport in the communities in which we work and we sponsor over 200 kits for community teams across the UK.”
