Glee’s Matthew Morrison has shared his heartbreak for Naya Rivera’s son following her tragic death.

The Santana Lopez star died in July this year while on a boating trip at Lake Piru near Santa Clarita, California, with her now five-year-old son, Josey.

After going missing for five days, the 33-year-old’s body was recovered from the lake, with the actress’s death since being ruled as accidental drowning.

Her Glee co-stars have spent the past three months paying tribute to the singer, and now Matthew, who played the music teacher Will Schuester, has remembered Naya in a touching tribute.

Chatting to Entertainment Tonight, the 41-year-old said: ‘Naya was a huge bright light. I mean, she’s someone who kind of kept us in stitches on set, like, she was always the one who is just so witty and just, like, always joking.

‘On that show, it was difficult. We pulled long, long hours — like 16 to 18 hour days — and we needed that, that team morale, and she was always there to give us a good laugh.’

He pressed: ‘It’s crazy saying “was.” But she was a special person and my heart just goes out to that family who is grieving.

‘I can’t imagine, you know, having a son myself, the upbringing that that child is going to be exposed to because his mother is not there, you know? It’s got to be so tough, so my heart goes out to that family’

A source has recently told the publication that Josey has been ‘doing better every day’ following his mum’s death.

Turning their attention to Naya’s ex-husband Ryan Dorsey who she shares Josey with, they added: ‘Ryan’s whole world is Josey right now. Ryan is still grieving and is very much struggling with the loss of Naya, but he stays strong and keeps going for the sake of his son.’

Naya’s sister Nickayla has since moved in with Ryan and Josey – and after receiving vile comments from online trolls – the proud dad has been forced to address his living arrangements.

Ryan stressed on Instagram: ‘[Josey] witnessed a nightmare before his eyes and he knows that even if they find her, she’s not coming home.’

He explained that Josey asked if his ‘Titi’, or auntie, could move in ‘because she’s now the closest thing he has to a mum’.

The actor continued: ‘Because you’re gonna need all the help you can get, as a single parent trying to build your career and navigate this disaster with your child. You deal with it every hour of every day for 80 plus days now.’
