Gary Neville admits his Bruno Fernandes worry after his bust-up with Cedric

Gary Neville believes Bruno Fernandes sometimes allows himself to get too wound up – and opposition players take advantage of this.

The Manchester United midfielder was involved in a clash with Arsenal defender Cedric Soares during Saturday’s fixture at the Emirates.

Cedric caught Fernandes with a trailing arm, prompting the Portuguese to hit the ground and then later return to his feet and get in the face of the German.

Cedric was booked for the incident, but it seems Fernandes was still riled up by what happened and moments later caught Granit Xhaka.

The United star was very lucky to avoid going in the book after he dragged his studs down the back of the Arsenal midfielder’s ankle.

Neville, who was providing commentary on Sky Sports, pointed out that Fernandes is sometimes in danger of losing his head and that rivals prey on this.

But quickly added it is exactly this that makes Fernandes who he is.

“You can [wind him up]. But that’s what makes him what he is, he’s the energy in the team,” explained Neville on Sky Sports. “He’s United’s best player with the ball and without the ball because the press starts from him as well.

“He’s got them going, in and out of possession, and he’s got that fire in him as well.”
