Match of the Day host Gary Lineker has been placed in self isolation after his son George, aged 28, showed coronavirus symptoms.
The former England international confirmed the news on Twitter this morning.
“In self isolation as @GeorgeLineker has symptoms,” Lineker wrote.
“They’re not the regular ones, but complete loss of sense of taste and smell. Odd these have not been pointed out much.
“Been nearly a week and has spent time at mine. I’ve been vigilant, hand washing/distancing but isolation it is.”
He added: “Worth being careful if you lose your sense of taste and smell.
“You could unknowingly have the virus. I checked all this with a doctor before sharing the information. Stay safe.”
Lineker, who usually presents Match of the Day and BT Sport’s Champions League coverage, has been off the TV in recent weeks as the majority of Europe’s top domestic leagues have been postponed.
It is unclear when the Premier League will return, although the FA have confirmed it will not be before April 30.
Lineker has been a very vocal voice in promoting the dangers of coronavirus.
“We want to suppress it, not get rid of it completely – which you can’t do anyway.
“Communities will become immune to it and that’s going to be an important part of controlling this longer term.”
When those quotes did the rounds on social media Lineker quote tweeted them and wrote “Sickening.”
