Gary Barlow believes Take That will get back together again – with all the five original members.

The band has been a three-piece since 2014 when Robbie Williams and Jason Orange both left the band.

Asked about the prospect of reuniting the Fab Five, Gary, who recently turned 50 said: “I think there will, I think there will. That’s one of the thrills of being in the band. You don’t know what’s going to happen from record to record and it’s lovely. It’s a very safe place Take That. It’s a lovely environment. It feels like a safe haven. It’s a place to go back to when you’ve done a bit of playing around and it’s time to go home.”

Gary, Mark Owen, 48, Jason, 50, Robbie, 46, and Howard Donald formed Take That in 1990.

Robbie quit the band in 1995 and the four remaining members continued with the world tour and released a final single, How Deep Is Your Love before breaking up in 2016.

After filming the Take That: For The Record documentary in 2005, Take That reformed without Robbie.

He re-joined in 2010 for the album Progress.

Despite quitting after becoming a dad for a second time, Robbie occasionally performed with Take That including at the 2018 X Factor final as well as last May as part of a virtual gig for the 2020 Meerkat Music gig where Mark, Howard, Gary and Robbie performed from their own respective homes, due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

Meanwhile, Jason has barely been seen since he announced in September 2014 he had left the band.

He said: “At a band meeting last week I confirmed to Mark, Gary, and Howard that I do not wish to commit to recording and promoting a new album. At the end of The Progress Tour I began to question whether it might be the right time for me to not continue on with Take That. There have been no fallings out, only a decision on my part that I no longer wish to do this.”

In 2018, Howard Donald told Loose Women viewers that his former bandmate had “gone off-grid”.

He explained: “Jason’s gone off the grid. He’s not taking emails or phone calls or stuff like that,” he said. But that’s good for him, that’s where he wants to be. I think he wants to be a million miles away from this at the moment.

“Who knows in the near future he might decide to change his mind and if he does he’s welcome back anytime.”

And 2019 Robbie said he had even considered hiring a private detective to find Jason.

“I should hire a private detective — he finds out where Jason Orange is, we inject him with a beeping thing, a chip, then we know where Jason is at all times.”

Meanwhile, Gary also talked about how he has turned to booze more during lockdown.

But he wasn’t worried that he and wife Dawn were having more alcohol than usual as there were bigger things to worry about like the effect on their children Daniel, 20, Emily, 18, and 12-year-old Daisy.

He told the How To Wow podcast: “I think this lockdown has increased my drinking. We drink more often than we used to. Not to a point where I’m worried. This is a very strange time that I don’t believe we will see again in our lifetimes.

“We are worried about the kids and the long-term effects it will have on them but it’s a very worrying thing. I think we are all underestimating the long-term effects of what this can be and an extra drink or two a week I’m not that worried. There are bigger things to worry about. I like a drink now and again. I’ve chilled out a bit more.”
