Gareth Southgate is expected to recall Mason Mount and Phil Foden for England’s Euro 2020 last-16 clash against Germany, but Bukayo Saka could miss out.

The Three Lions take on Joachim Low’s side at Wembley on Tuesday, with a place in the quarter-finals on the line.

Both Mount and Foden missed the 1-0 victory over Czech Republic earlier this week, while Saka impressed after being chosen to start on the right wing.

Chelsea midfielder Mount was due to start the final group stage game but was forced into isolation having been deemed to be a close contact of Billy Gilmour, who tested positive for Covid-19 following England’s draw with Scotland.

Southgate then decided against playing Foden, as the Manchester City starlet was on a yellow card and would’ve been suspended had he picked up another.

But according to the Mail On Sunday, Foden is set to return against Germany, while Mount is also in contention to play from the beginning.

Although Mount’s isolation isn’t due to end until Monday night, he has been keeping up his fitness by training away from the squad, with increasing optimism that could make the starting XI if required.

However, Foden’s reintroduction may mean Saka loses his place despite his dynamic display earlier this week.

Saka earned rave reviews for his man of the match performance, with ex-England defender Micah Richards insisting he can’t be dropped.

‘I think he’s learned a lot about the next game now because the way Saka played today he can’t be dropped,’ said Richards. ‘He was absolutely outstanding.

‘He’s so versatile he can play in so many different positions. At times people are scared to impose themselves on the game and play the easy pass but he was fearless. He’s 19 years of age and he played like he had all the experience in the world.

‘He was running in behind which we all know we need when Kane comes deep. Can he do his defensive work? Of course he can because he’s played left-back, wing-back. His all round performance was so professional for someone so young.

‘He’s going to cause drama’s for Southgate now with squad selection.’
