From Dazzling Sequins To Dior Make-Up – How Jorja Smith Did Her First Glastonbury

If the last two years have been a whirlwind for Jorja Smith, then consider how Glastonbury 2019 would have felt for the 22-year-old as she made her debut down on the Worthy Farm site.

With three performances over the course of the weekend, the 22-year-old had plenty of opportunities to flaunt her take on festival fashion and beauty both on stage and off.

This being the hottest Glastonbury on record, her make-up naturally had to be the best of the best. Her long-time make-up artist Carol Lopez Reid worked with Dior make-up products to ensure that the look worked on stage and withstood the accelerating temperatures.

As ever, the look began with her flawless complexion only made even better with Dior‘s Forever Foundation. “Jorja wanted something soft and defining, a neutral look that complimented her bold outfit and emphasised her glowing skin,” Carol explained.

When it comes to performing in front of hundreds of thousands on stage and millions watching on screens back home, there’s extra cosmetic considerations that need to factor in.

“We use powders to knock back shine under eyes, around the nose and in between the brows, which could make Jorja look oily on camera. Sometimes I’ll add a bit of the Dior Capture Youth Glow Booster Age-Delay Illuminating Serum on a wet beauty blender over the highlights too, so that it’s really popping under the lights. We need to use products that are smudge proof and long lasting.”

With all eyes on Jorja for her Friday night performance, this was to be the stand-out moment. Dressed in an asymmetric Halpern jumpsuit, Jorja’s beauty look was kept simple. “Her outfit was bold and her hair was big, so to create balance we went with a look that’s defining and fresh, with colours that would complement the whole look and her complexion,” Carol added. “Glastonbury is a huge show so she wanted to feel like herself. Her signature look is fresh and glowy, she doesn’t like anything too harsh or heavy. We blend and buff products into her skin so it’s all soft and has no harsh edges. She loves minimal make-up looks, that enhance her natural beauty and amazing skin.”

Hero products that shaped the look revolved around multi-use options that will prove useful year round for all, and not just the summer festival headliners amongst us, in particular the soon-to-be cult Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette and the Dior Backstage Face & Body Primer.

However, what’s a beauty look without a few finishing steps? Jorja’s came courtesy of Vogue office favourite Lip Glow and the jet black Diorshow Pump n Volume HD Mascara.
