The storied career of the cartoonist turned conceptual and production designer took him to the stars and back, working on films such as Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Alien, Total Recall and Back to the Future. Cobb created elaborate aliens, awe-inspiring spaceships and unique landscapes, and worked closely with James Cameron and Steven Spielberg. Cobb died this week aged 83
