Two men on Friday allegedly killed a love rival, Chinedu Okoye, at Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The names of the suspected murderers were given as Dubem Okeke, 28, and Okechukwu Okafor, 37.
A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that Okeke, who was in love with one Ifenyichukwu Kamsisichukwu, procured the assistance of Okafor to perpetrate the crime.
The source said, “What happened was that Dubem was in love with Kamsisichukwu.
“But there was a suspicion that Kamsisichukwu fell in love with the deceased. So when Okeke learnt that the deceased was in Kamsi’s house, he went there in company with Okafor and forced the room they were in open and attacked them with a gun.
“Before neighbours could intervene, the damage had been done.”
Confirming the incident to our correspondent, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, said the crime took place around 7:00 am on Friday at Umuru village.
He said following intelligence report, police detectives attached to Ogidi Division arrested the suspects.
He said, “The suspects stormed the house of one Ifenyichukwu Kamsisichukwu, 20, forced her to open her door and took away her boyfriend, one Chinedu Okoye, 24, and shot him with a gun.
“The scene was visited and the victim was rushed to a hospital for medical attention but was certified dead by a doctor.
“The victim’s corpse has been deposited at a morgue for autopsy.”
Speaking further, Mohammed said one single-barrelled gun allegedly used in perpetrating the crime, was recovered from the suspects as exhibits, adding that they would be prosecuted after investigations.
