Friends cast in 'final negotiations' to appear in reunion special and will earn more than $2 million

[ad_1]

As the entire cast of the hit sitcom Friends finalize their agreements for a reunion special, the six stars will reportedly earn between $2.25 million and $2.5 million for the show.

The six stars of Friends, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer, ‘were originally offered $1 million, which they turned down,’ according to WSJ

The special is reportedly a one-time show that will last only one hour. The outlet reported the special will be ‘a retrospective and interviews with the cast’ and potentially hosted by Ellen DeGeneres.

A representative for HBO told Fox News the Deadline reports, which claim the stars will make closer to $3 million-$4 million for their appearance, are ‘speculation and are not confirmed.’

Last month HBO Max’s Chief Creative Officer Kevin Reilly gave an update on the reunion status at the Television Critics Association expressed some struggles making it happen.

‘There is interest all around, and yet we can’t get the interests all alighted to push the button on it,’ Reilly told the audience.

The huge payday wouldn’t be surprising as the long-lasting favorite is one of the most profitable TV catalogs among streaming sites.

The actors were each making $1 million for the final two seasons of the iconic series in the early 2000s, which ran from 1994-2004.

WarnerMedia acquired the phenomenon for $425 million ($85 million a year for five years), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

This will be the first time the cast will appear together on-screen in 16 years, but they’ve been steadily reconnecting and making their friendships more public.

On Thursday, Perry became the final Friends star to create an Instagram account and was welcomed by Jennifer and Lisa.

Soon after Lisa broke the news that Matthew joined the app, Jennifer jokingly commented on her post: ‘Yay Matty! Could you TAKE any longer?’ with a shocked emoji and a heart, while Courteney Cox simply wrote ‘Yes Matty!!! and a heart.

Since joining Instagram, Matthew has gained over a million followers and counting, including Matt, Lisa, Jennifer and Courteney; David does not follow anyone on social media.

In October, Jennifer briefly crashed the app when technical difficulties were caused by the overwhelming volume of fans attempting to follow her after she posted a fresh selfie with the entire cast.

Jennifer then gathered 1.4million followers with five hours of posting the image, which broke a Guinness World Record, while her photo has since garner 15.7 million likes.

In December, Aniston talked about the Friends reunion special being in works at HBO Max and a recent dinner with the whole cast.

‘It’s a never ending question, isn’t it? What else could make a group of six actors feel more proud. It’s bringing people joy on a daily basis,’ she told People, claiming she knew nothing about a special.

‘We all miss it every day,’  she told Howard Stern on his SiriusXM radio show.
