Fortnite update 5.0: Epic Games news on new SMG and downtime plans

Today will see the first season 5 content patch released by the development team.

The Fortnite update 5.0 release today will be based around new content being added to the game.

Epic Games have yet to release the patch notes for their next big update; however, they have provided further details on when it will be arriving.

In a new post to fans, the development team reveals that Fortnite update 5.0 will be going live at around 1pm n the UK.

They have also announced the good news that Fortnite servers will not require any downtime during this process.

This will mean that fans will avoid being booted from live servers and will not have to worry about serious server issues springing up.

“Discover what’s new in the v5.0 Content Update! Patch Notes will be available once the hotfix is applied and there will be no downtime,” the message from Epic Games reads.

“Available tomorrow, July 17 at 8 AM Eastern Time (1200 GMT).”

As mentioned above, the new content update patch notes have not been shared by the team, so it’s not clear exactly what will be included in the latest patch.

However, Epic Games have dropped a few hints this week that suggest a new weapon and a new LTM will be debuting later today.

A new in-game message has been popping up, advertising the launch of another SMG variant.

“Submachine Gun – Coming Soon! New SMG weapon with a fast rate of fire and improved mobility,” the message reads.

So there’s no doubt that a new SMG weapon is being added to the game through the 5.0 content update.

It also seems likely that a new LTM is being released which will focus on bringing out your tactical side.

A new mode called Tactics Showdown was recently discovered and could be the next thing added to the game.

This LTM was initially found a month ago but the latest evidence suggests it’s being primed for use during season 5.

The description attached to the mode reveals that it will try to limit how much players can build, as well make it easier to take down players during the early stages of the game.

“This mode encourages tactical combat and building by putting a cap on the number of resources and ammunition players can carry,” the reported description reads.

“Player-built structures also start off with less health than normal, and when players are eliminated, they will drop fewer resources than normal.”

While a lot of LTM data has been removed from the game during the start of Fortnite season 5, data miners believe that Tactics Showdown will be coming to the game very soon.

Fortnite Battle Royale is a free-to-play game currently available to download on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch and iOS.
